Artist Statement
As a teenager growing up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, I began creating works of art. First, I designed and made my own clothes, and later I designed, painted, and hand stitched needlepoint canvases.
After graduating from the University of Arkansas, I moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and became interested in Oriental watercolor, first as a collector and then as a student. The rigid discipline of Sumi-e inspired me to introduce my own interpretation to watercolor abstractions of nature.
I put the paintbrushes aside for 15 years to return to teaching. In 2004, upon moving to Cotter, Arkansas, an Arkansas artist encouraged me to paint. So I picked up my brushes and palette to continue a desire to advance my creative talent to a higher level and capture the beauty around me on paper.![]() |

I work in watercolor, acrylic, and pen-and-ink incorporating creative interpretations of environmentally oriented subjects, such as nature scenes, flowers, and old barns. These subjects reflect my love of the outdoors, a love that I share with my photographer husband, Bill. Our home on a bluff overlooking the White River near Cotter in north central Arkansas is a great inspiration to my creativity.
